I enjoy writing me
opening me
reading me.
I misspell a lot, though
and feelings get fuzzy,
so unclear I can’t even read them myself.
Often the dictionary falls short,
gets offended when I scribble Spanish or
make up a bilingual feeling.
I do not care.
I enjoy writing me
feeling the lines
staining my fingers and the bleached paper with ink.
The ink gets to people sometimes.
It is too graphic and real and they rather go to the movies.
But I do not care.
One day there will be una escritora bilingual.
o una dominicana low class
una lesbiana with skirts
o una latina smart
who will enjoy reading me
opening me
re-writing me.

Disfruto cuando me escribo
me abro
Me leo.
A veces me deletreo con faltas
y los sentimientos se confunden
se oscurecen tanto que ni siquiera yo puedo leerme.
Muchas veces el diccionario no es suficiente
y se ofende cuando invento o garabateo,
como bilingüe,
un sentimiento.
Pero no me importa.
Me gusta escribirme
sentir como cada línea
mancha el papel y mis dedos.
La tinta es fuerte, realista
y muchas veces la gente se ofende
e irse al cine prefiere.
Pero no me importa.
Llegará el día en que una escritora bilingüe
o una dominicana corriente
una lesbiana con faldas
o una latina inteligente
vivirá por leerme
abrirme
re-escribirme.
